RECIPE NOTE:
Vazhaipoo is the Banana Blossom we get from the banana plant.Usually people avoid using Vazhaipoo in Cooking as it requires time for cleaning it. It is a very healthy veggie and rich in fibre. It is very good to consume it atleast once in a week.
It is said that all parts of the banana are very good in curing kidney problems. We try to include vazaipoo in our food quite often. Variety of dishes can be made with it. I am going to share with you guys the tasty and healthy Vazhaipoo Kola urundai.
Vazhaipoo Kola urundai is a recipe that is said to famous among the Chettinad Cuisine. It takes similar steps of the Mutton kola urundai.
Once if the cleaning is done, this recipe is not gonna take much of your time.
Vazhaipoo Kola Urundai is made up by mincing the vazhaipoo along with some spice powders, coconut and some binding agents. It is a deep fried recipe and can be used as a snack as well as side dish any type of South Indian Rice and Kuzhumbu variety.

RECIPE NAME: VAZHAIPOO KOLA URUNDAI

INGREDIENTS NEEDED:
- 1 full Vazhaipoo ( cleaned - remove the stem like part and a thick plastic like substance)
- 1 medium sized Onion
- 3 cloves of Garlic
- 1 inch of Ginger
- 2 Green chillies
- 1 tspn Chilli powder
- 1/2 tspn Turmeric powder
- 2 tbspn Grated Coconut1/2 tspn fennel seeds
- a bunch of Curry leaves ( chopped)
- 2 tbspn of Fried gram powder ( pottukadalai podi)
- Salt as per taste
- 1 cup Buttermilk(for soaking Vazhaipoo)
- Water as per requirement
- Oil - for deep frying
BRIEF RECIPE:
Vazhaipoo - clean and soak in Buttermilk - In a kadai - add in Vazhaipoo - Cook - Cool down - Take Blender - Add Onion- Ginger - Garlic - Curry leaves - Green Chilli - Grind coarse - Add coconut - Fennel Seeds - Vazhaipoo - Chilli powder - Salt - Fried gram powder - pulse it - Make small balls - Deep fry - Serve hot with sauce.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Clean the Vazhaipoo, chop it and add it to the Buttermilk and water mixture.
- We do this to prevent the vazhaipoo from getting black.
- Let it sit for about 10- 15 mins.
- Now take a kadai, add in this soaked vazhaipoo into it.
- To it add in some water and turmeric powder.
- Cook it until the water completely evaporates.
- Meanwhile, Take a blender.
- Add in the Onion, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, green chilli and grind them coarsely.
- Now add in the coconut,Fennel seeds, Chilli powder, salt, Fried gram powder and the cooked Vazhaipoo to it.
- Now just give it pulse or until everthing comes together.
- Heat the oil in a Kadai for Deep frying.
- Once the oil is hot add in the balls one by one and simmer the flame.
- Do not disturb it for a minute or so.
- Then turn the balls around and cook well.
- Tasty and yummy VAZHAIPOO KOLA URUNDAI is ready to serve.
Serve hot with Tomato sauce.

JUST A TIP CORNER:
- See to that Vazhaipoo is soaked in Buttermilk for atleast 10 mins to remove the bitterness from it.
- The kola urundai mixture should not contain any water.
- Add the fried gram powder little by little and see to that there is no water content in it.
- If you add more fried gram powder the balls may crack. So add it gradually.
